Amazon - The Final Frontier

The black waters of the Rio Negro are like Coca Cola, transparent. They are black because of the organic material decomposing, as in a gigantic tea kettle.

The Rio Negro basin is one of the oldest pieces of land in the world, so that there are no more mud being washed down by the river. Different from its neighbouring river, the muddy Solimões, that comes from the Andes, a very young formation, only 45 million years old.

People live isolated in small comunities by the river banks, setting their pace according to a different clock.

It is nature, as it was 500 years ago, unchanged. One of earth's last frontiers.
